Driver hits 3 workers after running red light on I-805 N

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A driver ran through a stop light on the I-805 North at Market Street, hitting several contract workers working for Caltrans early Tuesday morning. The crash happened around 3:22 a.m. and forced the 805 on-ramp near Market to close.
ABC 10News’ breaking news tracker was one of the first on the scene. When our reporter initially arrived, the driver was still there and was doing what looked like a sobriety test with California Highway Patrol officers. Three ambulances were in the area, too.
Police have now identified the driver as a 29-year-old female from Chula Vista, who was driving the 2014 Ford Escape that ran a red light and hit three workers before crashing into the back of a trailer.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) has also confirmed the driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Those who were hit were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
The incident and sequence of events are still under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call CHP San Diego at 858-293-6000.
