Nineteen punches to the face.
That’s how Deputy Caleb Hensley tried to control an inmate in August 2018 at Theo Lacy jail in Orange. The inmate, Jordan Nolte, had started a fight with another inmate and refused to be taken down by deputies.
So Hensley joined the fray, punching like his life depended on it. He broke Nolte’s bilateral orbital bone in his face and his nose. The report said Hensley suffered a sore hand.
Hensley was suspended for 46 hours without pay for excessive force. He had been on paid suspension for another 1,804 hours and received ,781, records show.
The case against Hensley was presented to the District Attorney’s Office, which declined to criminal charges. The injured inmate was not named in the reports.
