This listing is for a lovely Victorian era silverplated novelty lidded Sardine box with glass insert, c. 1900. The glass insert has a frosted appearance with cut design on sides and engraved leaf design in center of base. The insert sits on a tray with plain, wide sides and is covered with a beautifully engraved top decorated with ferns and flowers. At the top of the cover is a double sided shell with a fish (sardine) on top. This nice 3-piece sardine server is marked on bottom of base with the name "Dixon" and a trademark stamp.
This nice sardine server is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The silver plating is bright and the box polishes beautifully. The interior glass dish is also without any noted flaws. The silver plate base does reflect minor signs of normal wear.
Measures about 4 1/2" high (complete as shown), 7 1/4" long and 6 1/2" wide. The glass insert measures 1 7/8" high, 5 1/4" long and 4 3/8" wide. Combined weight is 2 pounds.
