    Description

    Pair of vermeil (thin layer of gold over sterling silver) repousse tastevins. Tastevins date back to the 15th century and were used by English and French winemakers as part of the testing process. Regular use of these was during the 18th and 19th centuries. These were probably made in the 1950's. They are small shallow bowls with domed centers. The design assists with the taste, smell and observation of the color of wine. This pair features a pattern of grape vines and leaves with Dionysus Bacchus faces. The handles are made of two snakes coming together. Marked Sterling 925 on the outside edge of each. Weight is 134 grams. Unknown maker.
