Description
One of the favorite beers coming out of Bend, Oregon right now is an IPA that tastes like it sounds. Our version of Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA has aromas of fresh citrus and the flavor of juicy oranges and tangerines that tantalize. Like the brewery, we use generous amounts of Mosaic and Citra hops. With supporting malt flavors, this beer is eminently drinkable right from the first sip. It's perfect for summer BBQs, but it's also a great beer for any IPA lover. For all of you IPA haters out there: Don’t count this one out just yet! The grapefruit and other citrus tones in this beer might just make a hophead out of you!
If adding grapefruit peel with the dry hops, peel one medium/large grapefruit, but leave the bitter white pith behind. Dry in the oven at 250ºF for 15 minutes and store in an airtight container before adding with the hops.
Due to the relatively high OG of this beer, we recommend either purchasing two packages of yeast or making a yeast starter before you brew.
All orders containing Liquid Yeast will be shipped with a complimentary ice pack to ensure safe shipping!
Style Profile
The India Pale Ale style (commonly referred to as "IPA") find their origins in the 18th century and were a practical solution to a major problem the sailors transporting the beers to India were experiencing. During their long voyage around the Cape of Good Hope to India, the beers would have a flat and sour taste. In a time before refrigeration, to combat this problem, they begin increasing the alcoholic content and used larger hop additions which would help their precious cargo survive the voyage.
All recipes ship with a Pack of dry yeast
Style Overview:
India Pale Ale came into the brewing scene as a measure in practicality actually. In the 1700s, sailers had trouble getting their beers to India due to the long voyage around the Cape of Good Hope. Brewers would add larger additions of hops, and increase the alcohol content, and thus, the beers could survive the voyage in a time before refrigeration and avoid being flat and sour upon arrival.
